One Social Media Tip For Every Edinburgh Comedy Award Nominee
Simple fixes for each of the 2025 selections.
Hello from Day 21 of the Edinburgh Fringe. With the official nominees for the Comedy Awards announced this afternoon, I figured it would be helpful to give each of them a simple social media tip that they could immediately apply today. Many agents, managers, comedians, and producers will be looking at your website / social media profiles over these next few days, and these small changes could be the difference between someone successfully getting in touch with you, or buying tickets to an upcoming show. Today, we’ll look at those nominated for the Comedy prize, and tomorrow we’ll look at those nominated for the Best Newcomer Award.
Dan Tiernan: All-In
Your bio mentions your Fringe show tickets,
but your bio link goes to a Linktree that features a link to “edfringe.com” and a link to a live show in Birmingham from two months ago. I would get rid of the LinkTree for now and just link directly to buy tickets to your Fringe show.
Also, here’s how I generally feel about LinkTree:
Ed Night: Your Old Mucker
While you don’t have a ton of total posts on Instagram (202), many of your older grid posts are promoting live shows and Fringe runs from years and years ago.
I would consider archiving any posts that are no longer relevant (especially if they are self-promo)
Ian Smith: Foot Spa Half Empty
You’re still plugging a Work-In-Progress in your LinkTree that happened in July:
It also looks like you have a bunch of tour dates coming up. I’d be directing people towards buying tickets to those, since your Fringe run is fully sold out!
John Tothill: This Must Be Heaven
You have two different profile pictures across TikTok and Instagram.
I would standardize these, and also not plug your Insta to your TikTok audience:
Katie Norris: Go West, Old Maid
Still seeing a ton of old live shows listed in your LinkTree:
Sam Jay: We the People
You have multiple 2+ year-old Story Highlights that I would remove:
I would also not plug that “YOUTUBE SUBSCRIBE” link in your bio. I would rather funnel your Instagram audience towards your PunchUp.Live page than to another, undifferentiated social media channel:
Sam Nicoresti: Baby Doomer
Lots of years-old story highlights atop your Instagram. I’d archive most of these:
Creepy Boys: SLUGS
Your one story highlight is of a 2023 Adelaide Fringe review. I would remove it:
I hope this was helpful and actionable. My purpose in doing this is not to single anyone out, but to demonstrate there are ways for every single comedian to improve their social media presence, even if they have an award-nominated show!
Congrats to all who were nominated! The only show I’ve seen from this shortlist was Dan Tiernan’s. It was absolutely the best hour I’ve experienced so far at the Fringe, so I can’t wait to watch the rest. If you’re at the Fringe, let’s grab a coffee. And if you want personalized feedback like this for your own profiles, you know where to find me.

Dear David,
Thank you for this service you provide!
I always love seeing what you notice and share.

PS Anyone who's at the Edinburgh Fringe right now, check out what David is offering!
PPS I'd also like to recommend that anyone at the Edinburgh Fringe go see Steffan Alun's show. He's my friend and he's very very funny!
PPPS Also I'm sure I have many other very funny friends at the Fringe and you should go see them also. If you ARE one of those friends, remind me and I'll tell people to go see YOU specifically!
